On the 40th anniversary of our loss, I had the honor of drawing Steve Prefontaine for GRANTLAND.

This was a dream gig with an immensely talented designer I’ve wanted to work with for a long time. The best part about this was doing the research and watching old Prefontaine races. It really was magical to watch him crush it in the last lap. That kind of legacy has the power to push pencils harder than you’d think.  It’s no wonder he left such a lasting impression. While doing my research I found a quote by him that I think belongs on every artist’s studio wall. “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”
